I'm New

“Orphaned believers, skeptical dreamers, you're welcome, yeah, you're safe right here. You don't have to go—'Cause all my favorite people are broken, believe me, I should know.” Over the Rhine

Door.jpgWherever you are in your journey—whether you're skeptical or curious about Christianity, or whether you're already a committed follower of Jesus—we welcome you to our website. We firmly believe that despite our diverse backgrounds, we’re really all the same. None of us has it all together—we’re all broken, in need of repair. That's why we celebrate Jesus. He brings wholeness to our lives as we embrace the fact that our identity is not based on our performance in life, but on the fact that Jesus has performed for us in his life, death, and resurrection.

We hope you find the information on our site helpful, although the best way to get to know us is by joining us for Sunday worship and checking out a community group. If you're wondering about how to get involved, see our connect page. If you want to learn more about Wilmington and what's going on in our city, click here. If you're curious about how to find your place in God's Story, go here.

We understand that visiting a church for the first time can be a bit unnerving. To help give you a feel for what City Church is like, we've put together answers to some frequently asked questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I don't normally go to church?

That's okay. City Church is a safe place regardless of where you are in your spiritual journey. Whether you come believing, disbelieving, or unsure of what you believe, we welcome you to be "in process" as you explore how Jesus is relevant to your life.

What should I wear to Sunday worship?

There really is no set dress code, so wear whatever you feel comfortable wearing. In general, we're pretty casual. Just be you - that's what's most important to us.

What about my kids?

City Church is a family-friendly environment. Click here for information about City Church Kids.

Do I have to be a member of the church to attend a community group?

Absolutely not. Community groups are open to everyone.

Can I bring my kids to community group?

Most of our groups accomodate families with children. See the community group page for more information.

What if I don't live in the city?

That's okay. While we're first and foremost a church for the city of Wilmington, lots of people in our church live outside the city. We've grown to expect this given the accessibility of Wilmington and the surrounding region. We hope that more and more people will move into the city to be part of God's Story here, but at the same time, you can be a meaningful part of our church community and not live in Wilmington. In fact, we have 2 community groups that meet outside the city in the Metro Wilmington area.

Is City Church part of a denomination?

Yes, although people from all kinds of different church backgrounds make up City Church. We're affiliated with a denomination because we believe it's good for us to be "in community" with other churches for connection and accountability. As an expression of this conviction, we're actually part of both a denomination (The Presbyterian Church in America), and an interdenominational network (The Acts 29 Network). You don't have to be "Presbyterian" to attend City Church or to become a member.
